December 6, 2024 - SWIVT 2.2 for nonstationary SWAN cases is available.

The latest versions of the SWIVT application and documentation can be downloaded from this site. The meta data associated with the SWIVT cases on the server can also be accessed via this site. Please stay up-to-date by visiting this site regularly.

Important:
A recent update of the SWIVT server may cause problems when adding cases to SWIVT.
To avoid this, change the server url, found under the menu [File], [Preferences] to https://swivt.deltares.nl/ .
Alternatively, download the new version 2.2.

Objectives of SWIVT

SWAN is a third-generation wave model that computes random, short-crested wind-generated waves in coastal regions and inland waters. The purpose of SWIVT is to validate SWAN in stationary and non-stationary mode in a flexible, efficient and effective way. This is achieved by offering the possibility to compare SWAN simulation results against observed data as well as against other simulations results (for example obtained with another version of SWAN or with different SWAN model settings). SWIVT includes validation cases, which are all taken from well-documented laboratory and field data and from analytical solutions. SWIVT is flexible in the sense that it offers the user the possibility to include new validation cases, to change physical model settings and to adjust the presentation of the results. SWIVT is freeware, under LGPL conditions.

Source code

These zip files contain all SWIVT GUI sources and utilities, and the User Manual in pdf and html format.
There are two versions: m-code for Matlab 7.3 (2006b) or higher (SWIVT version 1.7), and m-code for Matlab 9.4 (2018a) or higher (SWIVT version 2.2). There are also two standalone versions: for either you need to download the associated Matlab Runtime as well.

Please Note: the SWIVT zip files require a password! These passwords can be obtained from the Xi helpdesk by sending a request email.

Important: to run SWAN4120A or newer the MPICH software has to be installed. See the SWAN website for more details.

A short installation guide can be downloaded below (right click on the link), the information can also be found in the User Manual.

The xml and spt templates of version 2.2 need to satisfy the conditions stipulated in the associated xsd schema. This schema can be downloaded here: SWIVT 2.2 xsd schema. This schema contains a reference to http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance, as do the xml and spt files. Depending on your validator this reference might need to be adapted (eg replace 2001 by 2000/10).
